ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: PAQUE
We caught up with PAQUE ahead of his appearance at Clyde Chorus on Friday 30th May at SWG3 Box Hub Vennel...
For any new fans, can you tell us a bit more about yourself?
I actually started making music as a producer/beatmaker. Using FurityLoops (FL Studio), me and my friend Rapture4D were making music in my bedroom from S1/2 of secondary school. I only really started rapping around S2 of high school and it began through people comparing my voice to UK rap legend Giggs.
We can't wait to see you play at Clyde Chorus this month – what can fans expect from the show?
Fans can expect high energy, positive vibes, and exclusive music! I’m very grateful to do this show, so I want to provide an unforgettable experience.
What’s the best gig you’ve played to date?
The best gig I’ve ever performed at was probably supporting AJ Tracey’s sold out show at the O2 Academy. It is my biggest gig to date and the energy was amazing! Close second is my special guest appearance at Declan Welsh and the Decadent West’s headline gig at the Barras. Again, the energy was electric and it was my first time playing at the Barras.
Are there any artists that inspire your music/songwriting? Who and why?
I’d definitely have to say Kendrick Lamar inspires my writing a lot, he uses words so cleverly and makes sure every line is memorable. In addition, I’d say The Notorious BIG too – the way he strings sentences together and creates a narrative through his music has always inspired me to refine my lyrics. In terms of music in general, many artists, from A$AP Rocky, Stormzy, Drake and Future, inspire my energy. They aren’t afraid to switch genres and give the audience something new.
Do you have a dream venue you’ve always wanted to play?
My dream venue has always been the Hydro. Bang in the middle of one of the best cities in the world, it will be an honour to one day finish a tour or just headline a show there. Having spent my whole life in Glasgow, since moving from Kinshasa, Congo, I have always wanted to represent Scotland in my music, and what better way than performing at the iconic Hydro in front of the best crowd on the planet.
How is the rest of 2025 looking for you? Any exciting plans you can tell us about?
2025 is looking very good for me at the moment, with this show coming up and then a festival in July. I’m super grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given. I’m also just about to release the second single from my upcoming project with Independent label ‘Frictionless Music’, which I’m very excited about. Otherwise, I wait to see what the rest of the year has in store for me, but I know I’ll be busy making more great music.
